Markelian Gjon KAPIDANI was one of the most significant representatives of cultural and social changes of 'Albania in the years immediately following the fall of the Berlin Wall. One of the fundamental characteristics of his art is to blend beautifully with each other the great tradition "formal" of Western music with popular tunes and Albanians, especially those with "current" of Western music - from rock to jazz - which, strictly forbidden during the years of communism, for all the Albanians represented a formidable vehicle for finally found a freedom to express. His was the first memorable public jazz concert in Albania's July 21, 1992 with his quartet The Song of Jazz. Production, so to speak, "popular", Kapidani has accompanied a more "educated", not even locked her in the "ivory tower 'of the Academy.
